DIY Rustic Farmhouse Fire Surround

Today I'm sharing my DIY Rustic Farmhouse Style Fire Surround.

Here is how our freestanding combustion fire used to look.

I've always wanted to add some sort faux mantle behind our fire. With Christmas coming I knew I wanted somewhere to decorate and hang our stockings.

So I came up with a plan.  Initially I decided where I wanted the outsides of my surround. Then attached two planks of pine to the wall.

Then I put up my shelf brackets and added my pine shelf.

I decided to add wainscotting on either side of the fire surround and around the entire room to add a bit of detail. So I measured out my wall and painted the top section Dulux Limed White Quarter.

For the inside of the surround I went with a white board and batten made from sheets of MDF.

I'm so happy with my little mantle.

And the wainscotting turned out perfect too.
I'll be sharing a full living and dining room tour soon to show it off!
