TV Cabinet Chicken Wire Cut Outs

We have had this TV cabinet entertainment unit for years. We bought it new in a dark timber stain, then painted the bottom half white.

Here is how you might remember it ...

The only problem was our Play Station was getting overheated as there was not enough air circulation in the cabinet.  So the front sliding door was always left open. It looked messy and always annoyed me.

I had been talking about cutting out some inserts in the side of the cabinet for ages.  Finally I gave it a go.  I measured up where the cut out would be, making sure I stayed clear of the shelf inside. Then I drilled out the corners and used my jigsaw to cut out the sides.

And I just couldn't go past adding some chicken wire as well.  I thought about touching up the paint where I had cut the inserts, but decided I liked the chippy look.

The kids still leave the door open, but now I know I can close it. :)
